Traveling with Pets

For those of us who have pets, there is absolutely no way that we could fathom leaving them behind as we embark on this insane journey that has/will become our lives. The best way to travel with them is to be prepared and proactive.

Flying

You need a pet carrier that you can travel on the plane with. Your fur baby must be able to easily move in the space provided. Now as far as what size to buy, don't just rust the tag that shows an airplane approved symbol on the tag. While it is tedious, go to the airline websites and check the sizes. Then purchase one that complies with all the airlines. (CFA tends to book on Delta, American, or United.)
When you book your pet reservation, they will ask you:
1. What type of pet are you traveling with?
2. How much does your pet weigh?
3. What are the dimensions of your pet carrier?
4. What is the weight of your pet and carrier combined?

It will cost you $125 per pet per flight. You will also need to call the airline as soon as you get your airline confirmation number, to book your pet reservation. Depending on the airline there are only 2-5 pets allowed per flight. So make sure you lock in your pet's spot because quite a few travelers fly with pets.

Hotel

Make sure Uniglobe knows that you have an animal. Uniglobe needs to know that you have a pet, because Hilton properties do not accept pets. You will typically be booked at Marriott properties. Depending on the hotel property, it will cost you between $75 and $125 non-refundable deposit for your pet stay at that property. Also, you will need to lock your fur baby up during the day when you will bot be in your room if you would like the maids to clean your room. There is typically paperwork that they will have you sign at the front desk going over the pet rules of the property. I.E. Leash laws, pet restroom clean up, locking up your pet through the day, and keeping the hotel provided pet sign on your door.
